Kulgam Police Tighten Grip on Illegal Mining, Seize 4 Vehicles, Arrest Drivers

Kulgam, May 27: In a fresh drive against illegal mining, Kulgam Police have seized four vehicles allegedly used for the unlawful excavation and transport of minerals. The action was carried out in different parts of the district, leading to the arrest of all four drivers on the spot.

Sources said the police had been receiving complaints about illegal mining activity in the area. Acting swiftly, teams from Police Station Kulgam launched a series of checks, resulting in the seizure of the vehicles. Two FIRs—No. 52 and 53 of 2025—have been registered, and investigations are underway.

A police official told JK Top News that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining, which not only harms the environment but also violates state regulations. “We won’t allow the unchecked exploitation of our natural resources. More such actions will follow,” the officer said.

Locals in many areas have long raised concerns about the damage caused by unregulated mining. With this recent action, authorities seem to be stepping up their response.
