Rajouri, June 4: Rajouri district in Jammu & Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone by securing the second position among Hilly and Northeast districts in the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) initiative, a component of the Government of India’s “Catch the Rain” campaign. This recognition underscores the district’s commitment to water conservation and community participation.
Under the leadership of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Abhishek Sharma, Rajouri has constructed and uploaded 3,800 groundwater recharge and water conservation structures on the JSJB portal. This proactive approach has not only enhanced the district’s water management infrastructure but also qualified it for a national-level award .
The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative, launched on September 6, 2024, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Surat, Gujarat, emphasizes community involvement in water conservation efforts. It aims to construct affordable rainwater harvesting structures through collaborative efforts, leveraging resources from various government schemes and encouraging public participation .
Rajouri’s exemplary performance serves as a model for other districts, highlighting the impact of coordinated efforts in addressing water conservation challenges.
