Jammu, May 20: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has formally registered a case against several former revenue officials and others for their alleged involvement in the illegal allotment of state land. The case, filed under FIR No. 08/2025, includes charges under the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B of the RPC.
The accused officials—Ravinder Sharma (former Tehsildar Settlement, Jammu), Mohammad Bashir (former Tehsildar Bahu, Jammu), Mohd Sarwar Lone (former Naib Tehsildar Bahu, Jammu), and Mohd Rasheed Malik (former Patwari Chowadhi, Jammu)—are alleged to have conspired with beneficiaries to unlawfully allot state land to Tara Singh, a resident of Deli Rakh Bandu, Jammu. The allotment was made under Government Order No. 254/C dated July 19, 2014, despite failing to meet the conditions set by Cabinet Order No. 578-C of 1954.
Investigations revealed that the land in question was never cultivated by the allottee, as required by law. Instead, it remained under the name of Nazir Ahmad as a non-permanent tenant. Further scrutiny of revenue records showed that ownership rights were granted to Tara Singh despite discrepancies, including a Power of Attorney executed in favor of Javid Iqbal before the official transfer of ownership.
Authorities suspect that the accused officials and beneficiaries orchestrated the fraudulent transaction to acquire and later sell the land for crores, causing a significant financial loss to the state exchequer. The ACB has confirmed that further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the scam.
