ACB Books Revenue Official in J&K: Assets Worth 75 Lakh Seized

Kupwara/ Srinagar, June 17: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has registered a case against a revenue department official, identified as Mohd Ayoub Khan, a Patwari from Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara, after uncovering assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The action was taken following a discreet verification initiated on the basis of a complaint received by the ACB. The complainant alleged that the official was living an extravagant lifestyle, owning multiple properties and vehicles, and had made substantial payments towards his children’s professional education — including MBBS admission abroad and nursing education in Amritsar.

The ACB’s preliminary findings include:

  • Purchase of land at Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Srinagar, and construction of a double-storey house.
  • Another double-storey house constructed at Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara.
  • Purchase of a Hyundai Venue car and a two-wheeler.
  • Repayment of large bank loans running into approximately ₹75 lakhs.
  • Significant educational expenses, particularly for medical and nursing admissions.

Officials found that the suspect began taking out frequent bank loans after the complaint surfaced — allegedly to conceal the unexplained sources of income.

A formal case, FIR No. 03/2025 under Section 5(1)(e) read with 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, was registered on June 16, 2025, at the Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station, Baramulla.

Search operations were conducted on the same day at various premises linked to the accused. During the raids, officials recovered:

  • Receipts for purchase of gold ornaments
  • Bills for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
  • Other documents relevant to the ongoing investigation

All recoveries were made in the presence of magistrates and independent witnesses, following proper legal procedures.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities confirmed that all evidence collected will be presented before the competent court.

This development marks a significant step in J&K’s continuing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within government services.
