Jammu, June 1:
In a recent development, a government school teacher in Jammu and Kashmir has landed in jail for allegedly cheating job seekers out of lakhs by promising fake government appointments.
Jameel Anjum, a resident of Ustad Mohalla and currently under suspension, was arrested by the Crime Branch Jammu following a detailed complaint filed by a victim from Gujjar Nagar. The victim alleged that Anjum took ₹10 lakh in cash and gold worth ₹5 lakh with the false promise of securing government jobs for him and his sister.
According to investigators, Anjum issued forged appointment letters and convinced victims that special vacancies were being filled for educated youth from non-government backgrounds. Police sources confirmed that this was not an isolated case — ten FIRs are already registered against him, with four charge-sheeted.
The accused was presented in court and has been sent to 15-day judicial custody. Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime), Benam Tosh, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe deeper into the case and identify more victims.
Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any related information as the investigation continues.
