New Delhi/Srinagar, May 31, 2025: The President of India has appointed Vinai Kumar Saxena as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, according to an official notification issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Saxena replaces Shri Manoj Sinha, who had held the position since August 2020.
Saxena, a veteran administrator, served as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi from May 2022 to May 2025, and prior to that, he headed the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) from 2015 to 2022. His tenure at KVIC saw increased rural employment through Khadi promotion initiatives.
This change is part of a broader bureaucratic reshuffle approved by the President under Article 239 of the Constitution, on the advice of the Union Government. Rajesh Khullar, a 1988-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre and former Chief Secretary of Haryana, has been appointed the new LG of Delhi.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has yet to issue a public statement regarding the reshuffle’s rationale. Officials have confirmed that the transitions will take place following swearing-in ceremonies scheduled in the coming days.
