On May 24, 2025, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is visiting Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir to meet residents affected by recent cross-border shelling from Pakistan.
This follows India’s Operation Sindoor, a precision strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The shelling in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara between May 8-10 resulted in 27 civilian deaths and over 70 injuries, with significant damage to homes, schools, and religious sites.
Gandhi’s visit aims to express solidarity with affected families and highlight the human cost of the conflict.
